Welcome back to another edition of the never ending kitchen makeover saga, otherwise known as the One Room Challenge.
I know it’s been a while since I’ve given an update and I’m sorry. Last week it felt pointless to write another post about how the weather sabotaged our efforts at making progress. We hardly got anything accomplished that week because most of the projects hinge on actually purchasing the sink and counter supplies and getting them installed (which I am happy to report has finally happened!). Throw in a nasty little cold virus, stress migraines, plus lots of late nights and we were down for the count.
As you can probably tell this is not going to be a fancy reveal post. I am super disappointed. I really thought we could pull it off in six weeks. I mean, c’mon, a month and a half. I can do it! Well, nope. No, I couldn’t.
But don’t fret! We are still chugging along on this makeover and I am determined to finish by Thanksgiving. I kind of have to if I plan on celebrating at our place. So, that is our new deadline. Be on the lookout for the big and beautiful reveal sometime the week of Thanksgiving. Who knows? I may end up surprising myself and get it done earlier, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, for we’ve been down that path before.
Along wth a new deadline is a new plan. I want to share our progress with you all as we complete each project from here on out. I will share tutorials of each project after the reveal. Well, I guess that was pretty much the old plan but it feels good to say that we have a new plan since we have a new deadline.
I can tell you that I feel so much better than I did last week. I feel way less stressed since we aren’t on such a tight deadline. We have all of our materials in possession to complete the remaining projects, so whether the weather behaves or not, it’s not really a concern for us.
Where are we as far as progress, you ask? You saw how we extended the cabinets to the ceiling and lengthened the island to accommodate the microwave in Week 2. And you read about our butcher block conundrum in Week 3. Week 4 was all about how Hurricane Patricia put us behind schedule and I gave you a little peak at some of our supplies.
We’ve got our counters and sink/faucet installed but I’m going to make you work for it and come back for those individual updates. 🙂 I’m in the process of installing the backsplash as you read this. Say a little prayer for me, would ya?
I know it’s been pretty boring to follow along with but I promise you that things are already ramping up and I have some fun progress and prettiness to share with you in the next couple of weeks.
I’ll be back early next week with updates on the counters, sink and backsplash. I’m planning to start painting the cabinets this weekend but it may have to wait until next week. I’ve already filled the grain and sanded down the doors and drawer fronts.
I won’t say that I absolutely hated the One Room Challenge. I’ll definitely be back for future ORC’s but will be making over a more manageable space, such as a bedroom or guest bathroom. I will say that attempting a kitchen makeover on a six week timeline (or any timeline) is not a good idea. This kitchen renovation advice from Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick could not be truer. I feel like I could have written it word for word. It’s scary how spot on she is with everything we’ve experienced.
For now I will leave you with this photo of loveliness that I shared on Instagram over the weekend. It’s even prettier in person.
