I know a lot of you have been waiting for the reveal of the kitchen makeover and I’m so sorry it’s taken this long to get it posted. I’ve really been putting the blog on the back burner because I haven’t felt inspired or like I have much to share lately. If it wasn’t for the Monthly DIY Challenge, I’m not sure I would have posted anything at all these past six months.
The good news is that I feel like I’m getting my mojo back and I do have a ton of projects lined up to share with you. I have tutorials from my dining room makeover that I still need to post, so be expecting those these next few weeks.
We have the kitchen about 85% finished and I am crazy excited to share it! It’s been a long time coming and I’ve changed my mind about a thousand times, but I feel really confident in the the progress we’ve made and the direction it’s headed.
For now, though, I’d like to recap what projects we’ve done already and then give you a little sneak peek at where we are today. Fair warning though, these next few photos are by no means finished. Most of the pictures were taken on a whim because my hands were either covered in paint/wood filler/you name it or because they were taken in the evening during a late night DIY spree.
The first project we tackled was extending the cabinets to the ceiling. This update alone made the seven foot ceilings appear taller. In this photo the new cubbies and cabinets had only been primed and were still in need of a fresh coat of paint. And pretty decor. And the cabinet doors. And pretty dishes.
Next we extended our island by adding shelving at one end. We had an outlet installed so that we could move our microwave from above the stove and instead have it be out of sight at the end of the island.
I’ve loved having the microwave at the end of the island instead of over the stove. It helps ease the traffic in between the island and wall cabinets and it’s so much easier for my short self to prepare food.
If you look close, you can tell from the last picture that we added a new butcher block counter to the island. I really love the warmth it brings to the space.
As you may have seen, in between all of the kitchen reno projects, we made over the dining room for last year’s spring One Room Challenge. This project really made me aware of my style. I finally felt like I had created a space that was exactly what I wanted and how I had envisioned. It’s been fun trying to tie these two spaces together.
We’ve slowly but surely been making progress in the kitchen and each day it becomes more and more the space I have in mind. There is so much more kitchen goodness to come, friends! I’m excited to share it with y’all soon and would be so grateful if you decided to hang with me until the reveal.
I’ll be back in a few days with my spring mantel decor.
And now for that sneak peek I promised!
